How long is a steeplechase lap

Thanks, coach. Falling is a rite of passage, though. I once caught my toe on a barrier in the preliminary round at the National Championships, fell to the ground and somersaulted, then rolled back up to a running position without losing ground to my competitors Besides the water jump, there are four barriers placed evenly around the track.

The standard steeplechase distance is 3, meters, or about 1. In a meter steeplechase, you skip the water pit and first barrier during the first half lap. The first barrier, which is just after the finish line mark, is wider than the others to accommodate the fact that the field may be bunched up at the start of the race.

And yes, everyone is wearing spikes. As awesome as this event is, steeplechasers get no love. Often, athletes who get really good at the steeplechase promptly exit stage left for more glamorous events like the 1, meters or 5, meters. This never made sense to me. The steeplechase is clearly the more difficult event. This positions the start line for a m steeple 35 meters back of tangent point C, the start of a m flat race.

It positions the m steeple start 25 meters back of tangent point A, the start of a m flat race. And it positions the start of m steeple 15 meters back of the start line for a m flat race. Each of those steeple distances will provide about meters of running without jumps, giving runners some time to unpack.

Athletes in a m steeple race will not face H3, H4, or H5 during their first half lap of running. Their first jump is H1 and they will face five jumps, including the water, in each of seven complete "steeple laps" or a total of 35 jumps in the race. Athletes in a m steeple race will not face H1 or H2 during their first half lap of running. Their first jump is H3, followed by H4 and H5 during their first lap.

Thereafter they will face five jumps in each of their remaining four laps -- a total of 23 jumps in the race. Athletes in a m steeple race will not face H2, H3, or H4 in their first half lap of running.

Their first jump is H5. Thereafter they will face five jumps in their remaining three laps -- a total of 16 jumps in the race. A lot of athletes place their feet on the water jump barrier so as to provide an extra push over the water. Get social with us Irish Runner Latest Issue Buy.
